Refractometry is a simple method of measuring or establishing the concentration and mixture ratio of fluids. A few drops will suffice and the result is readable immediately. The scale refers to sugar percentage as most of the refractometers traditionally are used for sugar suspensions such as fruit juice, marmalade, juice, wine, etc. The method is also used for greases, washing powder, oil, cutting fluids and salt water.
